southville extension
This side return extension to a terraced house in Southville was completed in early 2019.
The new lean-to extension has exposed internal beams and roof lights which provide generous volume and daylight whilst retaining privacy from neighbours. A picture window seat gives a strong connection to the garden whilst creating a useful dining space.
Externally, projecting bands of brickwork pick up on the existing materiality and features on the front elevation, and the pitched roof echoes the adjacent roof form.
The project has transformed the previously narrow kitchen and an under-utilised area of garden into a generous open-plan living space, which is better connected to the rest of the house.
