“We were dealing with a small triangular patch of land hemmed in by two boundary walls that were very high. We knew from the beginning that space and natural light would be our biggest challenge. Barefoot had such amazing vision for the plot. Although we didn't have a huge budget, barefoot could think creatively and make sure we were still able to make the absolute best of the building. Winning the three RIBA awards was a huge surprise and very exciting for us. What an accolade to Barefoot, and so well deserved.“

  • View from a balcony looking over a residential community with wooden houses and small gardens.

    Bridport Co Housing

“Barefoot Architects had the ability to understand the residents’ desires, translating these into design suggestions in a way they could understand. We feel our development is unique and innovative in many ways. The project has been led and designed by a group of residents living in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Bristol with no previous knowledge of building houses. Every effort has been made by barefoot to ensure the design enables and encourages a well-balanced, sustainable, and cohesive community.”

  • Modern brick apartment building with colorful window shutters in yellow, green, and blue, small trees, and planted garden in front, under a blue sky with white clouds.

“I am moved by the thought and understanding that has gone into the design of this groundbreaking project. People like my brother should face outwards to the community, and all too often they are hemmed in and isolated from the very society they long to be a part of. What barefoot have done at in the building is genius and I'm sure your other projects warrant the same praise. Thank you for pre-empting my brother’s needs. Thank you for every last detail, down to the numbers on the doors and the individual post boxes. Nothing has been overlooked.”

  • A man riding a bicycle past a modern building with large glass windows, a vegetable stand on the sidewalk, and pedestrians outside a restaurant. There is a street sign reading east street 3 and a digital display board on the left.

    engine house

”Barefoot Architects’ visionary and bold approach enabled us to make a real statement with the Engine House. As clients we were persuaded to follow this bold route as a result of our trust in Barefoot. By attracting an award-winning bakery/ethical supermarket/cafe to the ground floor commercial space, a hub has been created for the local community to meet, socialise and enjoy. The tenants in the apartments themselves have developed their own community, helped by the inclusive design of the shared spaces.”

  • A community outdoor space with children playing, adults sitting, and a woman walking with a backpack, surrounded by trees, plants, and residential buildings.
