West of England Hub for Community Led Homes Film

April 17, 2020

The Bristol and Southwest region is an amazing place for creativity within the housing sector. ‘Community-led’ projects are the raison d’etre for Barefoot Architects, and we’ve been lucky enough to be a part of this exciting and dynamic movement since founding with projects for Bridport Cohousing, Ambition Lawrence Weston, Whitleigh Big Local, and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust. Very recently a new ‘Hub’ has been established for the region which will serve community groups seeking to develop homes for themselves. As part of this, the Hub have made a fantastic film exploring and explaining what community-led housing is. We highly recommend that if you’re interested in this movement you check it out! In their own words:

“In this time of crisis, communities are coming together like never before.

We want to take this opportunity to start changing the way that people look at housing and consider different ways as a community, we can solve the housing crisis. It gives communities the chance to really take charge and build the homes that they need rather than waiting for homes to be delivered to them.

We have created a short video to help show what community-led housing really means and the benefits it has had to local residents across the West of England.

Community-led housing is a place to live which has community at its heart.”
