Community Cohousing - Initial Ideas!

April 21, 2020

We’ve recently been developing ideas for a Cohousing project on the Isle of Wight. Together we’re testing and exploring ideas for low-cost, low-energy, low-impact homes with big ambitions and ideas for flexibility, sustainability and ecology. These initial sketches have been done for the group to test their brief, and begin the process of developing an approach to simple homes that can work for a range of families.

The concept is to have a serviced side of the houses that contains kitchen, bathroom, utility and toilets, which could be placed at the front, or back to suit individuals. The other side of the house contains all of the living and sleeping accommodation. An offset in the plan creates bay window features to give depth, articulation and rhythm to the street. Accessible green roofs host renewable technologies and enable rainwater attenuation and ecological benefits. We’re excited to hear what the community group think of these ideas, and look forward to developing them over the next few weeks.
