Barefoot Architects were appointed by Weymouth Rowing Club to develop proposals for a new boat shed and club house on their existing site on Weymouth's historic Nothe Parade. The site is located within the conservation area of the Old Harbour and in a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The proposal explored the possibility of a low impact building floating over the existing foundations of the current boat shed and harbour wall pre-fabricated from shipping containers.
The club has some 200 members participating in sea rowing using traditionally built 'Cornish Pilot Gigs'. Founded as a charity, the club are seeking to secure capital funding to enable them to expand their work with school groups, other waterside stakeholders, and to enable regattas to be held annually with clubs invited from the Southwest and beyond.
