cohousing
We are working with Bridge Farm Cohousing to develop a design for their low impact intentional community set within former farm buildings at the site in South Somerset. We’re leading a large consultant team to assist the group, in a co-design process, to bring the group’s dreams to life.
The proposal is to convert the farm yard into a cluster of 12 dwellings - a mix of 1, 2, and 3 bed homes - along with a shared common house, work spaces, and some of the site will be retained in agricultural use for food production by the group.
The Bridge Farm Cohousing project idea formed approximately 2 years ago and now consists of 12 active members representing 12 households with a very diverse age mix. We’re leading a large consultant team to assist the group, in a co-design process, to bring their dreams to life.
The proposals have received planning permission and are currently being developed so as to sensitively respond to the heritage features of the old farm. There are neighbouring listed buildings to take into consideration too. The strategy is to use the existing barn footprints as much as possible, with any new elements taking on the narrow, pitched roof forms that are an existing predominant typology. The courtyard feel is being reinforced to become a key element in the scheme that will be used for public and private landscaped zones, and to allow for circulation.
