Cor-ten steel and Bath Stone Extension in Redland Bristol Coming Along!

June 26, 2017

Rob and I visited a very hot site in leafy Redland last week to inspect progress of an ambitious and exciting extension to a fabulous family home. The single storey extension projects out from the rear of the house to provide an amazing new family dining room, utility space containing a shower and toilet, and a new level garden terrace. The project is seeking to complement and reinterpret the existing house using contemporary materials and forms. A cantilevering Cor-ten steel edged flat roof (currently Orientated Strand Board!) will wrap around this sharply detailed addition forming an outdoor sink area to the upper garden, and down to the terrace level where it will define new planting in front of the spectacularly proportioned bay window! New oversized bifold doors and corner glazing provide great natural day lighting to the space, whilst a long rooflight adds real delight internally where it will sit over the dining area. Significant structural works have been undertaken to remove chimneys and internal walls to provide a smooth surfaced clean kitchen space that links fully to a large family room on a half level up. Can't wait to see it completed.
