We worked with a great team and fantastic clients on this extension project in central Bristol. It was really important to us to help the clients realise their vision and create a space which reflects their personality and ambitions, which were to achieve a sense of ‘wow’ factor, and to provide better connection between the growing family’s living space and the garden.
For this project we used very high levels of insulation and designed large south-facing windows to make the most of the sun’s warmth in winter. We ensured that the space wouldn’t overheat in the summer by designing very deep window reveals and an offset, overhanging roof to provide shade. This was put to the test in the heatwave we had during summer 2021, and our clients reported that the space remained cool even then!
Using handmade brick and a bronze roof, this extension was built to last and to compliment the existing house. We were careful to choose materials that would age gracefully.
